2017 Presidential Inauguration

With the presidential inauguration on Friday, Jan. 20, followed by the Women’s March on Saturday, Jan. 21, we can expect an unusually large number of visitors to our city and surrounding areas. With such large crowds, there always exists the potential for problems. These include routine travel delays, civil disorders, and injuries and health emergencies that may present at our Emergency Department.

While it will be “business as usual” for Sibley during this period, we also recognize the possibility of issues and have planned accordingly. Our emergency planners have been meeting on a regular basis and our Emergency Department will have additional provider coverage during this period. Our Security Department will also be staffed up and on full alert. Again, although we are not expecting to be directly impacted by these events beyond the possibility of a surge of Emergency Department patients and travel delays for employees, Sibley will be prepared to meet any foreseeable eventualities. We will also maintain a “virtual” emergency command center during this time to monitor events and take appropriate action if necessary. We will also continue to update you as circumstances warrant.

In view of the traffic congestion anticipated during this timeframe along with some road closures, most notably along the parade route of Constitution Avenue, please plan your travel accordingly and budget extra time for travel if necessary. Staff are expected to report to work as they normally would. If you feel you may not be able to be at work at your designated time, arrangements can be made for you to sleep over at the hospital in accordance with our inclement weather policy.
