Question: Help! The surveyor asked me a question and I don’t know the answer! What do I do?
Answer: Breathe! If you don’t know the answer, say so. Never make something up. Just tell the surveyor where you’d go for the answer or who could provide it i.e. the intranet, your charge nurse, manager, etc.


Take the 2017 Safety Culture Assessment
We know how important safety is to our patients and coworkers, and to Sibley’s mission. We learn from mistakes when they happen, but how can we learn without things going wrong? The Safety Culture Assessment is an opportunity to do just that.

This assessment is only offered once every one to two years, and is the best way to flag opportunities for safety improvement in your department. It measures teamwork, safety, job satisfaction, stress recognition, perceptions of unit management, perceptions of hospital management and working conditions. Sample questions asked on the survey include:

  • I would feel safe being treated here as a patient.
  • I have the support I need from others in this work setting to care for patients.
  • There is good cooperation among hospital units that need to work together.

Survey invitations will be sent via email on Tuesday, Jan. 17, by Pascal Metrics. Read some frequently asked questions about the Safety Culture Assessment.


Scheduled Outage: Versus RTLS

On Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 7 a.m. to noon, a change will occur that affects the RTLS (real time location system) infrastructure. During this time, there will be momentary outages to the RTLS network where no location information will be generated for staff. These outages will be less than five minutes and will only affect one unit at a time.


New Online LGBT Resources Available

Sibley strives to provide the best care possible for our diverse community. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) patients have been historically underserved by health care providers. This history can color interactions between LGBT patients and clinical staff.

For staff wanting a better understanding of LGBT patients and visitors (as both patients and individuals), the National LGBT Health Education Center, provided by the Fenway Institute, offers a wide range of online events and webinars exploring important issues in LGBT care. Employees, physicians and volunteers are encouraged to use the Education Center’s materials to better serve the whole of our patients.
