Today’s TJC Tidbit

The Joint Commission (TJC) will be visiting Sibley. To help everyone prepare, we will be featuring a daily tip here.

A surveyor may ask you about verbal/telephone orders. Remember that verbal (face to face) orders are only allowed under urgent or emergent conditions such as a code blue or rapid response, when treatment must begin immediately, or when it is impractical for the provider to write the order, e.g. working within a sterile field. Telephone orders are allowed only when the prescriber is off campus and has no computer access.

Thank You for Naming the Monthly E-news!

We appreciate your feedback. Based on your votes, the new monthly employee e-newsletter is Sibley Connect. Look for the first issue in your inbox later this week.

Centre|Sibley

Did a patient accomplish a milestone like getting safely out of surgery, delivering a baby or simply recovering after a scary event? Perhaps they or their family would like to celebrate with food from their favorite restaurant or grocery store, by booking a professional photographer or something else.

Centre|Sibley can help! Our dedicated customer service concierges can help the patient or family work out the details and even have everything delivered right to the patient’s room.

Speak Up About Safety

We want to hear your voice! Below are just some of the safety initiatives from our Comprehensive Unit-Based Safety Program (CUSP) teams in the last six months. These initiatives were implemented because individuals like you spoke up.

CUSP Initiatives:

  • Revising lab protocols
  • Greeting the patients sooner
  • Room readiness checklist
  • Improving handoff
  • Patient flow

Johns Hopkins measures the success of its safety programs through the Safety Culture Assessment which runs until Tuesday, Feb. 14. On Wednesday, Feb. 1 an individual that has completed the survey will be randomly selected to win a free fitness tracker. They will be notified by email from Pascal Metrics. See more safety initiatives and read more about the Safety Culture Assessment.
