Sibley Honored by Premier Inc. for Reducing Hospital-Acquired Conditions and Readmissions
Sibley Memorial Hospital received an award from Premier Inc., a health care improvement company, recognizing excellent outcomes achieved during participation in the federal Partnership for Patients (PfP) Hospital Engagement Network (HEN) 2.0 initiative. During the national HEN 2.0 initiative, Premier’s HEN worked with more than 450 hospitals to meet goals in 11 harm areas and make improvement in 30-day readmissions.
Sibley is one of only 22 hospitals to receive the Premier Partnership for Patients HEN 2.0 Award for being in the top 10 percent of HEN 2.0 hospitals for work related to hospital-acquired infections and readmissions.
Wayne Sullivan, manager, regulatory compliance; Alyson “Aly” Stalzer, patient safety manager; Cindy Jordan, quality and case coordination data analyst; and JoEllen Harris, director of patient safety and quality, regulatory and infection prevention, accepted the award on behalf of Sibley and took a photo with Peyton Manning, former NFL quarterback, who was a keynote speaker at this year’s conference.
Manning spoke about leveraging leadership qualities to achieve professional success, offering “game time” analogies during his presentation. While it may not be as exciting as a photo opp with Peyton, the team here at Sibley also sends you a warm and heartfelt thank you for your hard work!
New Universal Protocol Policy and Education Regarding Correct Patient, Procedure and Site
Sibley has instituted a new universal protocol, Policy 01-08-04: Correct Patient, Procedure and Site, that went into effect on June 23. Click here to read the policy, which describes the process to verify that each procedure, whether surgical or non-surgical, is performed on the correct patient, is the planned procedure and is done at the correct anatomical side and site. The policy includes procedures involving moderate sedation or anesthesia, regardless of geographical location (e.g., procedural area, operating room, bedside). The policy applies unless specific Joint Commission exception criteria apply, as defined in Section II, B of the policy.
All staff involved in invasive procedures, regardless of geographical location, are required to complete education on the policy in MyLearning by Monday, July 31. Please log into MyLearning (available in my.jh.edu) to complete the course.
